A simple idea that’s been helping me: using prompts to “jump-start” new business ideas

Lately I’ve been trying to get better at shaping small ideas without spending hours thinking in circles.
Instead of asking ChatGPT for fully-formed answers, I started giving it a few lightweight prompts that help me think, not outsource the thinking.

It’s basically a little starter kit I use whenever I’m exploring something new.

Here are a few of the ones I rely on most:

1. Idea → Simple Plan

Help me shape a quick plan for this idea: [describe it].

Include:
• the problem
• who it helps
• the offer
• why it stands out
• how it earns revenue
• key things I need to check

2. Market Snapshot

I’m exploring this idea: [describe].

Give me a brief overview of:
• who feels the problem most
• how people handle it now
• what options already exist
• angles or opportunities worth exploring

3. Mini Branding Direction

For a business called [name] with this concept: [summary],
create:

• 1–2 tone guidelines
• a colour direction
• a tagline idea
• a short brand story

4. Pitch Outline

Create a short, clear pitch for [idea].

Sections:
• Problem
• Solution
• Who it helps
• Why now
• How it works
• Next steps

What I like about these is that they keep things small, enough structure to move forward, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming.

If anyone wants a bigger set of these, I’ve been keeping a free collection here (totally optional)
