Hey everyone! I’ll try to explain my situation as simple as I can. So in 2024 I had to leave one of my jobs and that took a huge hit on my income. Towards the end of 2024 I got a new job and raises/promotions at both places I work which doubled my income.

In December of 2024 I had called my insurance and asked if there is anything I need to do to reenroll, I was told I don’t have to do anything and that my insurance will automatically renew.

Fast forward to April and I was automatically switched to Medicaid. Medicaid does not cover my medications or even certain doctors I go to! I knew this was a mistake and made tons of calls trying to go back to my old insurance, but because of my income from 2024 they put me on Medicaid.

Eventually I got ahold of New York State of Health where they determined I am not eligible for Medicaid anymore because of my income, but they still denied my request to change it and said I will have to be on it for an entire year. After they denied me that told me I can try to appeal their decision. I have a court date tomorrow where I’m supposed to convince the state of health to take me off Medicaid. I am looking for any sort of advice I can get for what I should say or do tomorrow. I understand I could’ve been more responsible because I forgot to tell my insurance about my change in income and this has been a lesson I had to learn. I’m still getting used to dealing with my own insurance (no longer on my parents) and I just didn’t know better.

I appreciate any advice/insight I can get. Thanks so much.
