Before any of you try to take the easy route and blame my hardware: Macbook Pro / M1 Max / 64GB RAM / 2TB storage (yes, empty) + 700-1000 Mbps internet connection.
I have the Plus subscription for $20.
ChatGPT LAGS like crazy. In the browser, it's not possible to use it. It lags WAY TOO MUCH. (Once conversations get a bit longer than "Write this email for me.")
Let's look at some other AIs currently available (that I have personally used).
Does Gemini lag? No, it doesn't lag.
- It also has a context window 10x bigger than ChatGPT.
- It's also fully free if you use it through Google AI Studio.
- You also get 2TB storage with it if you pay.
- It's also cheaper (or the same price).
- It's also 100% free for an entire year for students, by the way.
- It also doesn't lecture you at every message (literally GPT-5 feels like you are talking to a cop who takes his job way too seriously).
- It also doesn't lag, at all, no matter how long the convo is, no matter how many files you attach. It just doesn't.
- It also can do every single thing that ChatGPT can do. Literally.
- Codex? Google has Jules and also Antigravity (which will completely smoke ChatGPT).
- Video/Image gen? Yes.
- Voice mode? Yes.
- Live mode with camera? Yes.
- Schedules? Yes.
- Custom GPTs? Yes.
- Apps and connectors? Yes.
Actually, every AI has the same offerings if not more. ChatGPT, just for fairness, probably has the Atlas browser that stands out. I was hoping that in OpenAI's own browser, an OpenAI-made AI agent would work faster? I mean not faster—that would be too much—but maybe it wouldn't lag as much? No, it still lags like crazy.
Now Claude:
- Does Claude lag? No, Claude doesn't lag.
- Does Claude do everything that ChatGPT does? Yes, it does.
- Does Claude code better than ChatGPT? Absolutely, 100%, by a BIG margin. HUGE. HUGE margin.
- Does Claude have all that other stuff that ChatGPT has? Yes, pretty sure it does.
There were at least 3 separate projects where I would spend 3-4 hours tackling some problems with ChatGPT, and then I switched to Claude's free plan—just to try, just because I heard somewhere that it excels at code. I swear, I am not over-exaggerating, it solved the whole entire thing (it's an email app) in ONE prompt. I am not just salty at ChatGPT and making stuff up—it really did what took ChatGPT’s top-mega-ultra-super model 5.1-THINKING-MAXIMUM 4 HOURS to do, but in 5 minutes.
Is Claude more expensive? No, Claude is not more expensive.
Is there anything where ChatGPT stands out, except for its unbearable lag?
I know, you are gonna say: "Use the app!" Well, that also lags (though I will admit, much less—thank you). But did you know that sometimes you cannot properly COPY from it?
Did you know that you cannot select all messages at once? You have to select each one individually. And even then, if you are lucky, CMD+C / CMD+V might work, but often it doesn't.
But honestly? Forget the price. Forget the features. I cannot stress this enough: ChatGPT is currently unusable.
Someone in the comment section right now: "I don't know man, I use it and it works just fine."
Bro, I am not talking about looking up a pasta recipe or writing a birthday wish for your grandma. I am talking about actual REAL WORK. (Maybe that's not what it was made for and I am just in the wrong aisle).
I am not talking about "it takes 2 seconds to think." I am talking about a 30-60 second wait just to load a chat. I am talking about typing a sentence and waiting 10 full seconds for the letters to appear on the screen. It is 2025 and I am watching a text box struggle to render text like I’m running Doom on a toaster.
It breaks my entire workflow. You cannot "flow" when every interaction freezes your browser.
OpenAI: You have raised BILLIONS of dollars. You have the smartest engineers on the planet. How is it possible that your flagship product—a TEXT-BASED interface—runs worse than a Flash game from 2005? How much money does one need to make a a website that doesn't lag? (everyone else figured it out, no matter how "complex" and "hard" it is.)
Every other AI (Gemini, Claude, Grok) is instant. Snappy. Zero lag. How did they figure it out? Can you guys have a meeting and learn from them how to make ChatGPT not lag? Can you maybe ask someone for help, because obviously you cannot solve this yourself?
You are supposed to be the market leader (or at least I thought you were), yet you have the worst-performing website in the industry. Fix your frontend or keep losing your power users.
What is the Unique Selling Proposition of ChatGPT currently?
I understand that you don't give a damn about this post. About losing my $20. And I know that there will be people who will happily swallow this and glaze OpenAI. But MAYBE, someone will see it. lol.
