ALTRO ZAFFERANO REVIEW: EXQUISITE ITALIAN DINING IN THE CLOUDS

ALTRO ZAFFERANO REVIEW: AMAZING ITALIAN WITH A VIEW: Read on, folks…

Altro Zafferano Review — Italian Sunshine on the 43rd Floor (Without Needing a Passport) If there is one thing Singapore excels at, it’s building restaurants in places that make you question your very own real estate decisions. It sits up on the 43rd floor of Ocean Financial Centre, which means you’re eating pasta while skyscrapers lean back around you like they’re also waiting for you to offer them a taster.

It’s a place where the view arrives first, the ambience and the people vibe kicks in second, and the food strolls in third, hands in pockets, so confident like it already knows it’s got your attention. Yeah, it’s good, folks, it’s really good. It’s actually the sister restaurant to another Italian family favourite: Griglia in Katong. We so love that place too.

This is Italian dining with a Mediterranean summer holiday attitude — the kind where plates taste bright, confident, and sun-soaked. The team here steers clear of anything heavy or clumsy; everything is tuned, like a band that’s played together long enough that nobody needs to count in… (wow deep…).

And yes — it’s date night territory, long lunch territory, big celebration territory, and potentially, as Wifey and I tried, “let’s pretend we’re sophisticated adults” territory (results may vary for me depending on a certain amopunt of a certain libation consumption).

Altro Zafferano: First Things First,The Space & Atmosphere

It has two personalities:

  1. Indoor dining hall — modern, polished, warm lighting, smooth service.
  2. Outdoor terrace — panoramic views, bar energy, the feeling that you may at any moment whisper: “Should we order a second bottle?” (Answer: F@ck yeah…)

It’s lively without being chaotic; people are actually talking (not tapping their screens), which already puts it in the upper tier of places where humans behave nicely in public. I highily recommend this for business lunches, it was perfcet for that — in fact I bumped into two mates doing exactly that on this day.

The staff are switched-on in the helpful but not hovering sense, just the same as at Griglia — damned good in fact. They describe things clearly, they smile like they mean it, and they do know what the Chef has been up to in great detail. #BeProud Altro Zafferano — most awesome crew front, back and middle…

Altro Zafferano: What’s on the menu…?

It’s Italian, yes, but not heavy Italian.

Think:

  • Fresh seafood.
  • Handmade pasta (shaped with actual care, not machine impulse.
  • Light broths and sauces that taste of summer.
  • Steak done with tenderness and respect for texture with percect seasoning.
  • Produce treated with care, like it cost money (because, actually, it did).

This is not Nonna’s big Sunday lunch. This is Milan meets Sardinia on vacation, working out on the balcony in a rather nice white linen shirt.

The Beef Tenderloin / Veal / Lamb Plates are awesome, and the proteins come in well-rested, sliced with intention, and sauced for elegance rather than drenching. If you’re with someone who “doesn’t want carbs,” this is their lane. They will still pick and prod at your pasta — as did Wifey.. Accept it.

The Wine Situation

The list is long enough to be taken seriously, but not so intimidating that you consider pretending to be allergic to grapes to avoid any embarrassement. The team can guide without judgement or pretence — whether you point confidently or vaguely gesture and say, “I like red ones that don’t argue with my budget.”

Outdoor terrace + chilled white, or icey cold beer = your life choices have just been validated.

Soup of the Day

This was a pea soup and it was a total belter, so so fresh in flavour — almost like the peas had just been shelled and popped in the bowl. Totally delicious and highly recommended if you happen to dine on the set lunch + how beautifiul is that plated. What a cracking start.

Vitello Tonnato e Carciofi

Slow Roasted Veal, Tuna Sauce, Marinated Artichokes. Oh man this was soooo good and soooo BIG. I did indeed grab a few bites, minus the tuna sauce — which Wifey validated as off-the-charts delicious by the way. Chef, I love this sauce idea — be proud, it will be somewhere on The Kapre Restaurant and Bar menu… Back to the veal — simple and simply stunning — melt-in-the-mouth yummy goodness. Woof!!!

Pappardelle al Parmigiano e Tartufo

House-Made Pappardelle, Parmigiano, Black Truffle. Oh lordy, this was great. Ever so light, but punching flavour way above its weight. What a total stunner, with little floral overtones from the truffle and a sauce to die for. Yeah, this thing is a beauty.

Angus Beef Striploin

Wild Arugula, Lambrusco Balsamico. I really am highly critical when it comes to steaks, but I have nothong but praise for this bad boy. Perfectly cooked Pink2Pink, and seasoned with steak mastery. Again, melt-in-the-mouth. Way to go Chef -stuff of legend!!!

Mashed Potatoes Horseradish, Caciocavallo | Marinated Beetroot

I’m calling both of these out as exquisite sides. The beetroot reminded me of my Nan, great job there Chef. I think marinated in Balsamic Vinegar, so sweet and tart all in one bite — I nearly cried. And the spuds, well just a wow… fluffy like a cloud, buttery and then super-savoury with the lightest punch of horseradish — make sure these two are on your order chit when you come here, folks…

Tiramisu

Mascarpone, Savoiardi, Espresso (For 2). Suffering now from a food coma, look what pops up on the table. I felt so guilty as my Tiramisu BFF, Jude Jude was not here to enjoy this, because what an absolute cracker of a Tiramisu this is — including gold leaf, and an intriguing orange rind topping — I think soaked in sugar syrup and then dehydrated until crisp — what an awe-inspiring end to the lunch. Mind-blowingly good.

Our research across other diner comments and journalist write-ups, show a few themes repeating:

  • The views are worth a slow meal, not a rush.
  • The pasta deserves respect — and seconds.
  • The service team is confident without arrogance.
  • The experience feels celebratory, even when it’s just Tuesday lunch — as we were having funnily enough.

No hype. This is steady, and reliably excellent.

Pricing: Let’s Have a Word

This is Dempsey tier + rooftop view + premium produce Italian. It’s going to land in the:

  • “Treat yourself” bracket for most people — but the set lunch pricing will aleviate that I am certain — so reasonable!!!
  • “Acceptable business lunch write-off” for certain expensed-up heroes — cough cough…
  • “Worth it for anniversaries, birthdays, closing deals, first dates, apology dinners” territory — or for me, date-lunch with my beautiful Wifey.

Lunch sets offer good value. Dinner runs higher as expected. But: you do get what you’re paying for.

Who shouldn’t:

  • Those looking for gigantic portions that require naps aftwards to ease the food coma.
  • Those expecting a Nonna shouting her lovely little head off from the kitchen.
  • Those allergic to the joy of totally amazing food.

Altro Zafferano Restaurant Review: Final Thoughts

It is the kind of restaurant where time feels slower, conversations stretch, wine breathes, and pasta arrives looking ready for its Instagram close-up. It’s sophisticated without being smug, friendly without being sloppy, and thoughtful without being fussy. Wifey and me had a blast — it was such a wonderful lunch date.

It’s the restaurant equivalent of a sunny afternoon at a harbour (just up in the clouds) — calm, bright, a bit glamorous, with the gentle reminder that someone in the kitchen has put serious thought into how your meal should make you feel.

Would I go back? Yes. Happily. This is special occasion and memory-making fuel — but also Tuesday lunch happiness with Wifey — I could not be happier.

See you there, folks. I’m the fat beardy one — can’t miss me. Save me a seat with a view. ENJOY!!!
