Any AI good at still being creative in niche situations/with very specific premises? Alternatively, any way to prompt ChatGPT better for this?

I find whenever I get too specific about a premise and ask it to continue a pattern, ChatGPT tends to not understand the pattern and just generate 5 variants on the most recent thing in a pattern.

I've tried it with several different choose-your-own-adventure premises, such as, most recently, trying to get it to expand on a tree of monster evolution, and it's just… bad at recognizing conceptual themes and thematic divergence, honestly, it seems to repeat whatever I told it back to me, then just add random flavours of its own to the existing monster rather than making a new one, valuing whatever it's got in its training data well over actually continuing the patterns in what I've told it (as well as spitting back the same 5 ideas no matter how I phrase my prompt or how I direct it, I have to wonder where it's pulling these from.) Every time I use ChatGPT for something like this, I can't help feeling like I wasted an hour or two expecting it to actually help. It seems to do something like this no matter the premise, whenever it gets specific enough.

(It also seems to ramp up power level and numbers in general WAY too fast lol. Give it something mildly strong-feeling and it'll be going "ah, yes, that seems like a regional god" (it never is), "to continue that, have something that can go on to terrorize even countries.", upscaling 80 to 1000, that kind of thing.

Someone in another thread told me I was just using the wrong AI, so I'm seeing if any of y'all know- what's the right AI? Alternatively, are they wrong? Is there a way to do this with ChatGPT I'm missing?
