Anyone else remember when games came out and you just played them, Or didn’t, and that was it?

I've been gaming since my family bought our first PC when I was 5 yrs old. Games then were mostly shareware, but it wasn't long after that that developers like Sierra came out on the scene. Games were still passion projects from I dividuals or duos, but they were marketable and sellable.

Back then, when a game came out, you'd browse, pick something out and take it home. You played and either liked it and played more, or didn't like it and that was the end of it.

Obviously, thisngs were way less complex, but the bottom line is we didn't crucify developers or send death threats just because we encountered a bug, or didn't enjoy some text we were reading (dialog didn't exist). We didn't have a complete meltdown when we learned a game wasn't what we expected.

I'm still like that. Sure I might be disappointed if a title doesn't live up to my expectations, but that's about it. Where did this compulsion to rake game devs across the coals for every little thing come from?
