My thoughts after using this impressive mini-PC as my daily driver for the past six months.

From July 2021 up until April 2025 I was using an Apple MacBook Pro 16″ (2019) laptop with an Intel CPU.

Initially needed for software development, I worked on that MacBook for just over two years with Xcode, Android Studio and all other manner of development tools. The workload required high performance, intensive processing and a good chunk of RAM. Unfortunately, it always seemed to me that it struggled through things even with 32GB RAM and a 2.6GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 CPU.

Then I had a career change (at the end of 2023) over to writing and editing, for which I worked on the MacBook for another sixteen months. The workload changed to much lighter requirements, but the MacBook didn’t make it feel like it was having an easier time.

I hadn’t particularly enjoyed using that MacBook Pro. It always felt a little slower and more clunky than my existing Dell XPS 15 9560 (2017) laptop, though both had a higher-end Intel CPU and 32GB RAM.

In fact, numerous things bugged me about the MacBook Pro:
