Appreciation for Shutter Island (2010)

I watched it today, and honestly was really confused. An absolute mindfuck. Near the end, i almost left it, but IM SO GLAD I DIDN’T. The twist absolutely blew me away, and really made me think about the film in a whole new light. I stand by the fact that a film is make or break when it comes to its twist. If the twist is crap, the film is crap.

Prime example in my recent memory being The Visit (2015). Which throughly disappointed me with its mediocre in retrospect twist.

Shutter Island turns what could have been a very predictable film into something truly interesting. If it was what Teddy thought. (The experiments, Brainwashing etc) It would be in my opinion, insanely generic.

But for it to be completely flipped on its head with a mental health narrative, just makes it something fully worth analysing. And why, I will be rewatching it, possibly multiple times just to spot the little breadcrumbs you miss first watching it.

edit: don’t know why i’m getting downvoted? Possibly for my opinion on The Visit but yk, 🤷‍♀️
