I got into a discussion with my parents over Thanksgiving. I had just watched The African Queen and I was telling them about it to refresh their memories of the movie. My dad said, "Oh, it has that scene with the leaches, right?" Which it does. Which then prompted him to declare that movies with scenes that involve leaches are usually good movies.
Now, I don't have a mental catalog of movies involving leaches, so I can't prove/disprove this, but so far it's working in his favor:
- The African Queen – a classic, has a few award noms, won best actor Oscar
- Stand By Me – arguably the most classic leach scene in cinema history
- Big Fish – a great movie with a short leach scene (which we happened to watch after this discussion and when this scene came on, my dad said, "See?!"
Does his theory hold water?
