Asked for a raise and got fired instead

Had a meeting with my VP today. I've been trying to sit down with him for a week about getting a raise. He kept blowing me off but finally agreed to meet.

I told him what I was looking for. His response: "Or what?"

I didn't know what to say. Just said I guess we'll see. Asked him why he doesn't think I deserve it.

He goes into this speech about how he'd love to pay everyone $100 an hour but it has to be fair across the board. I reminded him I'm not asking for $100 an hour.

Here's the thing. My team is four people including the manager. I'm the only one who knows how to run the entire production line. I've trained people before but they never stick around long enough to learn everything.

I pointed out that it doesn't make sense for me to make the same as someone who just started and doesn't know anything yet. He said that's unrealistic.

So I reminded him. For the past six months not a single finished product leaves this facility without going through me. Every single one.

That's when he started getting condescending. Told me I'm not special. I'm not a superstar. Anyone could do my job.

I said okay where are they then? Everyone else quit. I'm the last one standing who actually knows how to do this.

He said that's the wrong attitude to have. I asked what would happen if I wasn't here tomorrow. He said they'd figure it out.

I told him this conversation is over. You've made yourself clear. Walked out to the shop floor to get back to work.

Ten minutes later my manager comes and gets me. HR is now in the office. VP says effective immediately my employment is suspended.

I said go fuck yourself and went to get my keys. They all followed me out telling me I'm handling this wrong.

I got right in the VP's face. Told him I asked for fair compensation and you responded by firing me? Go fuck yourself you fucking idiot.
