Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is redundant and long.
I live/work in NY state. I’m currently on Medicaid. I have a lot of medical issues, most importantly epilepsy and a brain tumor. I had brain surgery in February and thankfully it went well. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my Medicaid. I didn’t work for a while after my surgery and only went back because my leave wasn’t paid.
I work short term contracts, so how much I work/get paid per month isn’t consistent and I don’t have health insurance. I just finished my current contract. I wasn’t really ready to go back to work as soon as I did and I’m paying for it now (fatigue, cognitive etc), so I was planning on taking the summer (unpaid) off and not doing contracts. I work in schools anyway, so not a lot of work for a contractor during the summer. I also need time to take care of the medical issues I’ve been neglecting g during my brain surgery recovery. I was planning on doing that this summer.
I also have what is likely brain inflammation, but possibly tumor recurrence. I won’t know until my MRI later in July. I’m assuming this won’t go into effect that quickly? I’m worried about my MRI coverage. I’m also worried because I need to do a hospital stay for my epilepsy in the next couple of months.
The thing is that I’m not on disability or SSI or anything. According to the government, I’m able bodied. Im not sure what to make of this new bill and how it impacts me.
Sorry for the long essay and thanks if you made it to the end
