There is a lot of research that backs this up. When you sit with your hands in your lap you are perceived as not trustworthy and insecure. I don’t know about you but in a job interview I want to be seen as trustworthy and confident and if all it takes is to put my hands on the table, that’s easy. Also, don’t forget to smile 😊 Smiling helps you feel less nervous, and it tells others that you are friendly and approachable. 2️⃣ Say your interviewers name because people like the sounds of their own name. “Thanks for meeting with me today, Mike.” It’s really that easy to get someone to like you. 3️⃣ While you are at it, pay them a compliment. No. Not a personal compliment. Do not talk about them personally or compliment them, their appearance or anything creepy. Compliment the company. Compliment the interview process. Compliment the projects they are doing. Compliment the office. 4️⃣ Preparation. There is no substitute for preparation. Obviously, you need to do your research and know what the company does, but most people spend too much time on this and not enough time preparing for interview questions. A job interview in the most basic sense is just a set of questions about you, and the more you know yourself the better you’ll do. You need to practice interview questions. 5️⃣ At the end of the job interview when they say, “Do you have any questions for us?” You need to be prepared with impressive questions to ask them. And whatever you do do NOT ask them, “Are there any reasons why you wouldn’t want to hire me?” Because they are not going to tell you the truth and why would you plant seeds of doubt at the end of the interview. Instead impress them with great questions. 6️⃣ I get it, I know you need a job and you are feeling desperate and crazy, but you cannot tell them that. And I know this sounds obvious but being eager and enthusiastic will backfire because we want what we can’t have so you need to play hard to get. Corporate recruiters value what they can’t have so tell them that you are actively interviewing and you have a lot of opportunities coming up.
