We don't have a lot of income or assets, and are curious about having Medicaid of some sort in place of the medigap plan in 3 years when I sign up for Medicare. The income limits I see online are quite low, $1305 for a single or $1763 for a married couple. I have read a little about Medicare savings programs, but do not understand how they work and the income limits involved. I also read some stuff about "Medicad divorces" or legal separations, things would have to get pretty bad to go down that path but you never know I guess depending on what health issues develop. We do have small IRAs and some savings, but they are small enough to get used up prior to me turning 65. Our only income in retirement will be social security, my wifes will be below the $1305 limit, mine will be above that but if I was to draw early than not by much, although we would be way above the $1763 for a married couple.
Just hoping to get some idea/advice of how people qualify for Medicaid secondary to Medicare, and if the MSP plans have different income limits, and if there is anything we should be doing to help qualify. Thanks!
