Reflect on your writing, reset your focus, and stay motivated to keep creating.
Creative writing is a long game. It’s about consistency and momentum. A weekly review grounds your goals while giving space to reflect on what worked and what didn’t.
Start With What You Wrote
List what you actually wrote this week.
Wrote 1,200 words for Chapter 4
Sketched out a new character for the mystery subplot
Edited two scenes for tone and pacing
Jotted down dialogue ideas for the next chapter
See your creative output. Small pieces count.
Note What Didn’t Happen
Look at what you planned but didn’t write. Ask yourself:
Was the task too vague? (“Work on story” isn’t helpful.)
Did you avoid it because it felt too hard?
Is it still worth doing?
If “finish outline for new short story” didn’t happen, break it into smaller steps like “brainstorm premise” or “write character sketch.” Or maybe you’re not ready to outline yet. Adjust your plan instead of carrying it forward…
