Do you “invert y-axis”? Curious about who does/doesn’t.

If you like, would you comment with:
your age (approx.)

do you always invert y-axis?

if so, always? Just controller or just mouse?

why/how do you have that preference?

I’m 50s, and prefer to invert in pretty much every game for both mouse and controller. I think (and I’m told by the internet) that it’s because I started playing games when the old-school joystick was in use and playing flight sim games with that.

Today I was starting a new game and wondered if the only reason “invert y-axis” still exists is for gen-x and older millenial gamers, or if there’s more to it than “we grew up playing flight sims with a joystick”, and younger gamers do it too.

Thanks!
Edit2: Thank you all for the replies, I can’t reply to everybody but I’m upvoting y’all. Really interesting, thanks for contributing!

Edit: /u/jtho78 (and /u/SailorJerrry ) posted this article talking about a scientific study done on this topic. From the article:
“In short, gamers think they are an inverter or a non-inverter because of how they were first exposed to game controls. Someone who played a lot of flight sims in the 1980s may have unconsciously taught themselves to invert and now they consider that their innate preference; alternatively a gamer who grew up in the 2000s, when non-inverted controls became prevalent may think they are naturally a non-inverter. However, cognitive tests suggest otherwise. It’s much more likely that you invert or don’t invert due to how your brain perceives objects in 3D space.”
