Theme and What is it?
Doomlings Legends of Enderas adds five small expansions into Doomlings. With one exception these are simple boosts that can be added with minimal new rules.
What does it add?
This set adds five expansions: Dinolings, Mythlings, Techlings, Fuzlings, and Treasures. Three of these, Dino, Myth, and Tech, have appeared before. I’ll briefly go into what each of these bring to the game.
Dinolings add 24 trait cards and 3 age cards. The Dino set manipulates the discard pile allowing you to dig through it to add cards to your hand. They also have cards with higher point totals.
Mythlings add 24 traits and 3 age cards. Myth cards have a lot of discard effects. There are also cards that add a new spell icon that comes with special effects.
Techlings add 24 traits and 3 age cards. Techlings act as attachments. These cards can be attached to another trait card modifying it. Tech cards stay with the card they were played to.
Fuzelings add 10 traits and 3 ages. Fuzelings are a mix of the traits from the other cards in this set. Often having icons and abilities from multiple sets.
Treasures add the most to the game. There are 26 treasure cards that form their own deck. Each player starts with one treasure. When a new age card is drawn you may draw a treasure card if you have less than two. Treasure cards have an effect that can be used on your turn to give you a special ability. Most treasure cards have two different effects, you’ll need to choose one when it’s played. At the end of the game all treasure cards are discarded and have no further effect. Cards can let you play extra cards, draw cards, or discard and play new cards to replace them.
Do I want/need this?
This comes down to how much you want/like this game. If you are a completionist then you’ll want this set. If you like the game and want some new options this adds in well. If you’re just starting out then maybe wait a bit to try these cards later.
Conclusions
I really like this set. I’ve previously reviewed Myth, Dino, and Tech sets. I liked them but my biggest complaint was I felt like there weren’t enough cards. This set adds some of those cards to your deck increasing their footprint. It also adds additional copies of cards that require multiple copies to score well with; such as Swarm where each card is worth the number of Swarms you have in play.
If you’d like to add these and remove them, they have easy to find icons to make sorting easy. The icons found in this set are better placed than from previous printings. I like how easy these are to find.
The treasure deck is a nice addition. The rules for treasures are nice and simple but add enough of a change that it offers more decision space to follow. You only get at most two cards at a time. This encourages you to play them and I appreciate that.
I really like this set. It handles my most consistent complaint about these expansions. I enjoy having more cards. I’m absolutely going to need to find a better storage solution going forward as I’m running out of space in the small box I have now. But, I don’t mind because of how much I enjoy the game. I love when they introduce new stuff, but this set offering a return to previous sets and giving me more cards to use with the ones I have is great.
They have changed how they mark the expansion cards. I prefer the new way as its easier to find them and remove them from the deck if you choose to do that. Though it does look odd if you have the older cards.
