A new cumulative update, KB5058379 (OS Build 19045.5854), is now available for Windows 10 as part of the May 2025 Patch Tuesday release. This update delivers essential improvements in system security, stability, and performance. It includes critical vulnerability patches, resolves a GPU bug affecting the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2), and fixes repeated Event Viewer errors linked to the System Guard Runtime Monitor Broker service.

One key enhancement is the expansion of the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist, which now blocks more drivers used in Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks. This helps prevent attackers from using flawed third-party drivers to gain elevated privileges, strengthening overall system defenses.

Developers using WSL2 will benefit from a fix that resolves a case-sensitivity issue in GPU paravirtualization, restoring reliable GPU support for Linux-based AI and graphical workloads.

The update also corrects an issue that caused frequent Event ID 7023 logs, improving clarity in system diagnostics.

However, there is a known issue with Citrix environments: systems running Citrix Session Recording Agent version 2411 may fail to install the update and revert to the previous build during reboot. Upgrading to a newer SRA version before installing KB5058379 is recommended.

To install the update, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Alternatively, it can be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Note: Windows 10 support ends in October 2025 — Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 11 for continued updates and security.
