Will try to be concise. I am advancing my education/career rapidly, and want my family off of government insurance, but my wife and I disagree on this. The 4 of us receive Medicaid (Masshealth Standard). Our income is my single stream of ~48k annual, and we are JUST within the upper limit for eligibility (based on MAGI). Our plan has us pay for Cigna insurance OOP through my employer, and then Masshealth sends us a check, and covers all co-pays and related expenses. Check comes to ~$821.00 monthly.
My wife has some health troubles and is facing another GI surgery. Our 2 kids are very healthy, and I am lucky in that I've never needed serious healthcare, and as a result, I'm rather ignorant to these things. Her concern is that paying OOP will erase any gains I manage to find in pay, and put our budget in the red.
I intend to get these answers somehow:
– What's the typical OOP expense for employer provided health insurance? Tech sector, if that matters.
– Roughly how much more will I need in take-home pay to offset this expense?
– How do I go about job hunting with a focus on affordable health insurance? Should I identify those HI providers who generally offer low deductibles, and ask employers which provider they use??
Feeling somewhat stuck in poverty, and I know I'm not alone.
