Flashy visuals, but this legacy sequel to a legacy sequel is a tedious bore

Right, let’s get the childish sniggering out of the way. Yes, I know Tron Ares is an anagram of “torn arse”. Yes, the anagram is apt, given this tedious bore of a film. What’s more, I’m sure I’m far from the only person to point this out, so wipe that smirk off your face and let’s move on. (Admittedly, my many misdemeanours during school years taught me that, when being told off by a teacher, it is impossible to “wipe that smirk off your face” as the expression merely invites further titters.)

I’ll confess that I’ve never been a huge fan of Tron (1982) or indeed the first legacy sequel, the aptly named Tron Legacy (2010). The first film is fun for a bit before it bogs down, though the light cycle chase is a highlight. I suppose it’s a minor footnote in visual effects history, but overall, it is far from a classic. However, at least I remember it, which is more than I can say for Tron Legacy. That one went in one ear and out the other (I’ve only seen it once). In fact, I remember more about the Tron-tribute pop video for Infernal’s hit “From Paris to Berlin” than I do Tron Legacy (it reached number 2 in the UK singles chart in 2006 — I’m a shameless connoisseur of pop music).
