I do know the reason is a perfect storm of events.
1) Largest cyber attack in history. 3 of them. By nations, not basement dwellers.
2) Mass exodus (again) from OpenAI.
3) New product launch.
I am not mad about the problem. you are – to use a little hyperbole – bench testing the digital apocalypse.
What I’m mad about. Google user since the 90’s. Business customer for part of that stretch
We deserved a simple splash screen telling us NOT to touch existing chats, and with a link explaining the problem.
We deserved a json export feature.
I will admit it. I burn tokens. And the API is a better solution for me, as it is customizable, and pay-per-use. And with a local Python cache—hell, even a live cache, cheaper for me than the chat interface.
One reason is the chat interface degredates.
But—the API is not functional right now.
So I—your LOYAL customer for over 25 years, is right now running a Python script to hook up to—Anthropic‘s API.
Google, you need to learn how to communicate. It is us power users that will be paying your bills for years to come.
Gemini is a Horrible AI companion. It has been an amazing work horse.
Now PLEASE fix the stability of the API. And start communicating.
