Just wanted to make a post because flock cameras are popping up in Los Angeles. For many that are unaware they might just assume it’s just a regular security camera but Flock has been under heavy scrutiny because of the data it collects and who it shares it with. They’re marketed as just license plate detection but it’s more than that and many groups are warning of mass surveillance.

The ACLU (https://www.aclu.org/news/privacy-technology/flock-roundup) has noted that they share their info with law enforcement both local and federal including ICE (https://www.404media.co/ice-taps-into-nationwide-ai-enabled-camera-network-data-shows/)

In Texas they’ve been used to track down recipients of abortions in Texas’s attack on bodily autonomy (because it should be her f-ing choice not some politicians)

Flock is looking to move to sell info to data brokers that would create people profiles (mass surveillance)
