By skyforbes I live in Georgia and my Sister (19y/o) has Down syndrome along with numerous other medical issues. She had open heart surgery at a very young age and every 6 months or so she has to go to a heart specialist to have her heart checked on, She also has to stay over night every 6 months to a year because she has sleep apnea, She has a speech impediment, IEP and recently, hearing loss. Anyways, she’s always received a disability check..I believe, but I know for sure she’s always had Medicaid. Recently, as of this year, her Medicaid was turned off and the reasoning was because “she receives a disability check”. Now I know Medicaid is based on income but is there any other insurance she can use? She can’t get a job because of the IEP and speech impediment so she can’t get insurance through work. Her speech is to the point where it’s very hard to understand her if you didn’t grow up with her and even then it’s hard. There are a few words here and there that my family and I can understand to know what she’s talking about and she also has a really bad stutter. She had a therapist that would come and work with her (1-2x) a month ever since she was little. I’m sorry this isn’t very informative but I don’t have a lot of information (medical and finances) to go off of, but does anyone know, if not Medicaid, what insurance she can use?
