I always notice footsteps in games. How they change on grass, metal, stone, or sand. Some games do it perfect. Some games do not match the scene at all. It affects the whole feeling of the world, but nobody talks about it.
I noticed this in Skyrim when the footstep sounds on some rocks felt the same as dirt.
I felt the same in Cyberpunk 2077 in a few areas where metal floors sounded like wood. Small thing, but it breaks the mood fast.
A good footstep sound can make a world feel real. A bad one can break the whole mood. I think this small detail deserves a real talk.
What game has the best footsteps you ever heard?
Thank you.
