By skyforbes I'm having a highly frustrating and repetitive issue with Gemini. I'm hoping someone here might have a solution….
My primary use for Gemini is prompt engineering—creating highly detailed, technical, and photorealistic text prompts for external image and video generation engines.
The problem is: Gemini keeps creating images that I didn't ask for, even after I've told it multiple times not to.
I've had conversations where I explicitly state "Never create images" or "I only need the text prompt," but during the response flow, an image will frequently appear. This is annoying because it slows down my workflow and feels like the core instruction is being ignored.
To try and solve this, I even created a custom Gem where I included the instruction: "Strictly never generate images or videos. Your sole output must be text prompts." Yet, even the custom Gem sometimes defaults to generating a visual placeholder or an actual image, only for me to have to follow up with a correction.
My questions are:
- Is there a hidden setting that allows me to permanently disable Gemini's image creation tool? (I only want text output.)
- Has anyone else experienced this issue of Gemini repeatedly generating unwanted images after being explicitly told not to? How did you manage to get it to stop?
Any advice on permanently locking the output to text-only would be greatly appreciated!
