Over the past few weeks, I have been asked many times what exactly is behind the new Google AI Mode. Many of you have seen the first screenshots or read some articles about it — but it’s still not entirely clear what’s actually changing. I took a closer look at the AI Mode, experimented with several test versions and, of course, compared it with ChatGPT. What is Google AI Mode?
Google AI Mode is not a new product, but an additional mode within the classic Google Search. You can think of it as an interactive AI assistant built right into the search experience. Instead of a list of ten blue links, AI Mode provides a summarized, AI-generated answer to your query — often with references, visuals, or structured information.
