How are so many of the most celebrated directors right now primarily horror directors?

Robert Eggers, Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, and now Coralie Fargeat and Zack Cregger may be too. The list goes on. It seems like ever since the "elevated horror" (i hate that term too dont worry) boom of the mid 2010s, horror has sort of become mainstream again, and thus has birthed some of the defining voices of filmmaking right now. Of course there's also been many non-horror directors to make a staple the past few years, like Yorgos Lanthimos and Sean Baker. Does anyone have any theories as to this resurgance of horror being taken seriously again for the past few years?
