So, you had a blog. Maybe that blog was only around for a couple of months, maybe you had it for a couple of years. Either way, at some point that blog went to blog heaven. You never meant to give up on it really, you just skipped a couple of weeks between posts. Then it was a couple of more weeks which turned into months, maybe even years.
Once enough time has passed it can feel like there is no way you can go back. All your readers have forgotten you, your traffic is in the toilet and there’s no way you can actually come back from this.
This post is dedicated to that. To the people who started a blog but life, and doubt, and maybe even apathy set in.
This a sure-fire plan that will get you back on track, back into action, and getting traffic again in no time!
1. Get to The Bottom of Why It Died In The First Place
I see a lot of bloggers and influencers dip in and out of their platforms for months at a time. They will essentially ghost their followers, and then come back as if nothing ever happened. There’s nothing wrong with taking a break, and you certainly don’t need to justify a very healthy social media detox, but in my experience you don’t learn anything with this approach.
If you had a blog, and you were going strong and you were feeling passionate and full of ideas, there is a reason you stopped. Getting to the bottom of that reason is how you stop the cycle.
Ghosting your blog does NOT mean you are “not cut out for this”. It does not mean you are lazy, or have nothing to say, or anything like that. In my experience it usually comes from a couple of things.
- You felt overwhelmed. Somewhere along the way you got caught up in a long list of things you needed to do until you were working all the time and constantly focused on your blog (even when you should’ve been doing other things like being present, sleeping, or other work).
- You felt uninspired. Many bloggers after a while get to the point where they feel like they have nothing left to write about. So they try to find new ideas but after a lot of blank documents, nothing comes out.
- You burn out. Did you start off a little too strong? Like writing tons of posts a week, on all the social medias, reading all the posts? You might have not paced yourself and simply burned out. This is totally normal.
- You weren’t seeing results. When you think you’re doing everything right, and you’re constantly trying out new things and you’re still getting traffic, making money, or seeing the kind of progress you’re after so after a while, you just throw in the towel and decide maybe this just isn’t for you.
- You weren’t true to yourself. A lot of people start a blog at first with the intention to do what they love, and then somewhere a long the way they get sucked into advice about what you should be doing and abandon what they truly desire to be writing about which leads me to the next step.
2. Get Clear On What You Actually Want to Be Writing About
A lot of bloggers start out with a passionate idea. Then they write a couple of posts and don’t get the results they wanted. Then they read a post or take a course that their niche doesn’t make any money but X niche does. So they switch niches. When in reality, they really wanted to be writing about something else all along but thought they couldn’t make any money doing it.
This never works because it’s not sustainable.
You didn’t launch yourself into the blogging world to try to make money doing this so you could pretend to be someone else. Blogs that last are the extension of the creator. Meaning YOU get to write content that you are passionate about, believe in, and are thrilled to share with the world.
This was a main driving factor in creating The 30 Day Guide to Make Money Blogging.
There is so much fear in the blogging community.
You have to do this to make money, not do this, write about this, make pins like this, be on this social media, create these income streams, I was so tired of it.
So I created The 30 Day Guide to Make Money Blogging. I was told it would take MONTHS to make any money blogging and I just couldn’t accept that. The truth is, I wanted to prove them wrong. And I did. And now you can too!
When you know what to focus on and blend strategy with also writing about what you love, you can make a lot of money blogging. I went full time in less than in a year. There is a huge conception that you can only make money blogging if you teach others how to make money blogging and this is simply not true.
In fact, my best selling products on in the manifestation niche.
I just happen to be really passionate about helping women make money online and do something they love instead of having to clock into a job that takes up most of their week instead of living on their own terms.
The course contains how to grow your blog quickly following the same strategy I used to become a full-time blogger in four months. It breaks down the mindset, the daily practices I did every single day to build my blog, as well as how to create a blogging strategy that is sustainable for you, and writing content that converts readers into subscribers and customers.
It is a crash-course of beginners, and if you’re interested in checking it out you can do so >>HERE
The bottom-line is that you can make money blogging in any niche, writing about anything. Because there isn’t just one way to have a blog. Instead, you need to blog about what you are actually passionate about, because if not, what’s the point? If you don’t actually care about what you’re creating then why bother creating it?
Commit to what YOU want to write about and know that you truly can write about anything and be successful. I go into writing content that you love and that also converts into customers much more in depth in The 30 Day Guide to Make Money Blogging but for the sake of this post understand that there is a direct correlation between bloggers who make a lot of money, and loving what their content its. The rule is there is no rules. You can make money blogging writing about whatever.
3. Take Inventory
This step is all about taking inventory of all of the things that maybe took a hiatus when you also stopped being active on your blog. Do you have an Instagram following that you ghosted? Facebook following? What about your email list? This step is all about taking steps towards being fully present again. So start with what feels the least daunting to build up your routine again.
If you start with social media you can be honest with your followers about what happened. I find that these kind of raw and vulnerable posts not only great for you to start posting again but also well received by your audience. No one is mad at you (at least any real, supportive, and amazing supporters will not be!) so it is just a matter of being honest.
This can be the most scary part, because you have to take stock of all the things that have to be to be tended to. Judging yourself is never the answer though. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that I live in a world where everything happens for my benefit. Nothing means anything unless we assign meaning to it, so don’t be afraid to take stock and dive right back in.
4. Reboot, Re-Brand, Re-Start
If you ended up falling off the wagon because of some other reason besides being bored by your content, simply redo what you did in the beginning. Start posting on social media, create lead magnets, manage emails, etc. However, if you stopped because you lost your passion, it is time for a re-brand! If you were a fitness blogger who really wanted to be writing about mommy life… its to re-brand.
Rebranding is simply sometimes changing up logos, colors, pictures etc, but at the core it is positioning yourself into your new field and deciding to start shifting your content in that direction. It is a good idea to approach your audience and simply say “Hey I know you’re used to this…but I’m doing something different and I would love your support.”
Like I mentioned earlier, having a blog that you’re actually passionate about is the entire point of this whole thing right?
So, simply reboot, re-brand (if needed), and redo. Start creating again, and try to be consistent because what I’ve found is action always inspires inspiration. The most inspired I ever am is when I am consistent with my creation process.
5. Follow Fun
I don’t know how to do things I don’t like to do. I used to hate this about myself. It caused me to be miserable at jobs and I was so frustrated with myself because I didn’t understand why I was “succeeding” in the same way my peers were, but I was absolutely miserable with the 9-5 model. I didn’t know it could be different.
Now that I am deeper into the entrepreneur journey, I understand why none of those other jobs worked out. Now, I follow fun. I write what I want to write. I make my own schedule. I market the way I want to market. I don’t follow any of the rules. I still make the money, take trips around the world, and get closer to a world that is even more luxurious, free, and abundant.
I created my present. I decided it was possible.
I want to help you do the same.
The 30 Day Guide to Make Money Blogging is for those new to blogging or who aren’t making the money they want with their blog and want to rocket their success quickly.
To be honest, The 30 Day Guide to Make Money Blogging was created out of a little rebellion.
There are people who don’t think what I did (and what I am doing) is possible.
In fact, I got linked in a blog post about how unrealistic it is to make money as quickly as I did and why you shouldn’t expect those results.
I wasn’t upset at being used as an example, I am the poster child for unrealistic. I don’t do things like everyone else. I defy the odds frequently. I am, by “normal” standards unrealistic. I am more than okay with that.
What did upset me though, was the attempt to spread the lie that it is wrong to expect greatness…quickly.
If you desire to be successful now, if you desire to make money your first week, if you desire to be a seven figure blogger…you are not wrong.
You are a trailblazer.
You should go as big as you desire. If you want this to be a side hustle, awesome! If you want this to fund your entire life and help you buy that new luxury pair of shoes, also awesome!
I am not special, I am just someone who didn’t listen to other people’s limitations. I am just someone who knew it could be different.
It is not that I didn’t have doubt, I just also had unshakeable faith in my goals and vision. I want you to have the same, and I teach you all the practical ways to get there.
Join me in being “unrealistic”. >>Check out the course here
Remember, it is okay to dream big. We dreamers get stuff done.
It is also safe to start over.
So go on, your readers are waiting with eager eyes!
