How to tell if a writer is using ChatGPT — Part II Watermarks – Holly Patterson – Medium

Supposely, ChatGPT has watermarks.

I think everyone is aware of the em dashes and other cutesy emoji characters it likes to add in.

But what about hidden watermarks?

So, after browsing a few YouTube videos, I tried to find these watermarks….and my results are…I can’t find them! Not besides the obvious ones that aren’t even hidden.

I think the / gives it away and so does the — but really you can see these things already. I would not call them hidden. Also, I have read sometimes ChatGPT will add extra spaces. Maybe my short paragraph wasn’t long enough to inspire a watermark.

Please note, some writers really do use the em dash…so it’s not always a good check. I have read books, books before chatGPT, where the em dash appears.
