Job description: Description :The HPC Scientific System Architect will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure tailored to genomic and scientific workflows. This senior-level role requires deep expertise in HPC architecture, bioinformatics workflows, and system performance tuning. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including scientists, software engineers, and bioinformaticians—to ensure the infrastructure meets the demanding computational needs of genomic analysis and clinical applications.RESPONSIBILITIES:HPC Architecture and System Design:
- Design scalable HPC systems and environments tailored to Baylor Genetics’ scientific computing requirements.

<li>Advise on and assist in selecting appropriate hardware based on the performance needs of genomic tools and workflows.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Architect hybrid and cloud-based HPC solutions aligned with scientific and operational goals.</li>
</ul> Workflow Optimization and Performance Tuning:
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to optimize workflows using job schedulers (e.g., Slurm) and workflow managers (e.g., Nextflow).</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Tune software and system parameters to enhance performance of bioinformatics and other scientific workloads.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Analyze genomics workflows to identify bottlenecks and recommend architectural or software improvements for optimization on the HPC system.</li>
</ul> System Administration and Configuration Management:
<ul>
<li>Architect solutions for configuration management and deployment of bioinformatics software.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Advise on HPC administration, including storage systems, data management strategies, and monitoring tools.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Provide guidance on security and compliance practices for handling sensitive genomic data.</li>
</ul> Cross-Functional Collaboration:
<ul>
<li>Work closely with scientists, software engineers, and bioinformaticians to align infrastructure with analysis and clinical needs.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Support DevOps and IT teams in deploying and maintaining HPC systems and services.</li>
</ul> Regulatory and Compliance Support:
<ul>
<li>Ensure HPC systems and workflows comply with regulatory standards such as CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and FDA.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Assist in documenting HPC-related processes and support audits as needed.</li>
</ul><b>QUALIFICATIONS:</b><span class="br"></span><b>Skills:</b>
<ul>
<li>Deep knowledge of HPC architecture and design, especially in genomics and bioinformatics contexts.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Advanced proficiency with Slurm, Bright Cluster Manager, and workflow engines such as Nextflow.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Hands-on experience of Linux/Unix systems, parallel file systems, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Singularity).</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives in a fast-paced environment.</li>
</ul><b>Education:</b>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field.</li>
</ul><b>Experience:</b>
<ul>
<li>Minimum of 5 years of experience in HPC system architecture or administration.</li>
<li>Proven experience optimizing bioinformatics workflows on HPC systems.</li>
<li>Experience in healthcare or genomics environments with high regulatory requirements is preferred.</li>
