I Grew to 10K on TikTok in 3 Months. It Wasn’t the Content I Expected.
When I opened TikTok, I didn’t set out to build a full-time influencer career. I wasn’t chasing brand deals or banking on monetization. My goal was simple: use the platform as a hands-on experiment to learn social media marketing — something I could eventually translate into a more flexible, remote-friendly career path.
Three months later, I had over 10,000 followers. The twist? The content that took off wasn’t what I expected. I thought my niche — books, writing, BookTok — would be the driver. Instead, TikTok pushed out my affiliate clips and random, deeply human moments.
The Plan: Becoming a BookTok Creator
I wanted to share quick reviews, cozy bookish clips, and reflections on my writing journey. TikTok has an entire community built around BookTok, and I assumed that’s where I’d find traction.
But BookTok is crowded, and my posts got buried.
What Actually Took Off
My book content barely moved. But my TikTok Shop affiliate videos and random throwaway clips started gaining momentum.
