Okay so I live in Pennsylvania. My doctor has deemed me mentally disabled and not capable of working as of 2019. I barely see my doctor because of how debilitating my mental health is but one of the times I had an appointment he told me I should apply for Snap Benefits and Medicaid. I applied in 2024 and have been receiving benefits now for 12 months. This month I am scheduled to renew my benefits but I have questions.

I believe you’re not allowed to have more than $2,000 in resources to qualify for benefits and that includes money in a savings account. For the entire time I was receiving benefits I had over that amount in a savings account. I was not made aware of that until just now while talking with a friend. What is going to happen now? I haven’t even used my Medicaid for anything. No doctors visits or anything that required me to actually use the health insurance card I was given. Am I going to be in trouble here? What would I even have to owe back in this situation?

I know almost nothing about how all this works, as I said, my doctor is the one who wanted me to get these benefits and now I’m worried that I may have screwed up and am worried about the potential consequences. Any help would be great.
