For those that weren't around; this arcade game was a phenomenon and likely a large reason why the show became as popular as it did in the first place. It was a technical marvel at the time and set a standard for how to treat a popular IP with respect.
That last part is the thing that sparks my intrigue as an adult. How did this Japanese company barely anyone knew (relatively speaking) at the time come out of nowhere and nail the aesthetic and overall soul of the most popular IP of the 90's so damned well?
This was before the proliferation of internet. What did that kind of collaboration even look like?
This game seems to be something of a marvel to me. Two things:
- I did not realize this thing was in creation during the first season, according to some conversations I've seen. This makes me more curious about what the creators wanted from the IP in general.
- Related to 1: I was in my preteens when this game was released in Arcades, and as such, I think it's been verified by Einstein that there's some kind of time dilation effect that happens during this stage of a person's life – because it felt like "The Simpsons" as a franchise had been around forever at this point, before I first ran into that Arcade Machine for the first time at "The Palace" skating rink all those years ago.
I really need a thorough behind-the-scenes documentary on this thing. Someone please get on this!
