A behind-the-scenes look at how a few unconventional prompt styles completely transformed my imagination and helped me produce fresh, high-impact ideas.
The Truth About Brainstorming: Why It’s Not Working Anymore
Let’s be honest. Brainstorming often feels like a buzzword managers throw out when they don’t know the next step. “Let’s brainstorm on this” sounds great until five people are staring blankly at a whiteboard, unsure if they should speak up or if their idea is “good enough.”
I’ve been there in creative meetings where time runs out and we walk away with more confusion than clarity. I’ve also had solo sessions where I opened a new Google Doc, ready to write… and then scrolled Instagram for an hour because I couldn’t land on an idea.
The problem? Brainstorming, as we do it today, is often unstructured, overly pressured, or too dependent on group dynamics. We expect lightning to strike in real time, without offering the space or stimulus to generate meaningful sparks.
Plus, most of us are juggling dozens of tabs—mentally and literally. There’s no room to sit and think anymore.
