If you look around the bedroom where the story is told by the grandfather to his grandson, you see Christmas decorations everywhere, on the walls, up above the bed, and there’s also a Santa on the closet behind the grandfather. In addition, when the mother opens up the window near the beginning of the movie, you can see Christmas lights on the house across the street.
It’s a very slim argument, I know. But I think it might just be enough to make The Princess Bride technically count as a Christmas movie, even if it is nowhere near the focus of the story. I mean, many people already consider movies like Die Hard to be a Christmas movie even though it’s not the focus, so I can’t see why this one can’t join the list.
