Idiocracy- A Movie Review. What Did I Just Watch

I was hanging out at a friend’s house and we were talking about movies and other pop culture.

Then we started talking about our current political climate, and she compared it to the move Idiocracy. I know a lot of people are doing that, but I digress. After revealing I had never seen the movie, she was shocked and so we watched this movie together.

This movie came out originally in 2005 0r 2006. So, it definitely did not age well. In the movie, the main character is an average man. The movie shows people with supposedly high IQs trying to have kids and just not, because it doesn’t make sense for whatever reason be it financial, political climates, etc. On the flipside, people with low IQs are reproducing faster than rabbits. It’s a key element for what happens later in the story.

(And sadly, in a way, that is happening today? Please tell me I’m wrong.)

The main character, Joe, is selected by the army because he is average in everything and they put him and a hooker in a freeze chamber. They are only supposed to be asleep for one year, but 500 years go by. When Joe rises from his freeze chamber, he doesn’t recognize anything. The movie does go on to show the disasters that have happened. Disasters that could happen now, if we aren’t careful.
