Is Gemini 3.0 really a ChatGPT killer?

It has been almost 2 week since Gemini 3.0 launch and it is still #2 on the app store right behind Chatgpt in the US. There are a few reasonings that one can infer:

  1. For consumer LLMs, beating benchmarks is only a part of the equation. 99% of users don’t even figure out any differences and defaults to better UI or free limits for similarish intelligence.

  2. People are stuck in their ways. They downloaded Chatgpt almost 3 years ago and they are comfortable with the familiarity of the app. If it ain’t broken, why change it.

  3. Some redditors might argue that they trust Google more than Sketchy Sam but then Meta apps are the most widely used platforms in the world. General person seems to care less about ethics.

  4. You may game the system to say that Gemini has 650 million MAU which is the closest competition to Chatgpt. But this can done by default usage in Google workspace, search, Android devices and not by an organic user action.

Google, Microsoft, Meta and somewhat Amazon have deeply integrated LLMs into all their existing products to stop further consumer bleeding. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Chinese LLMs would still thrive and continue to create new ecosystems or products in the future. Thoughts?
