By skyforbes OKLAHOMA- I just quit my job. I was a Medical Assistant, and I accidentally made a small HIPAA violation. It is being reported. However, I quit because I couldn’t keep working for someone that is taking advantage of patients. In way more ways than just the fees. But. The fees are RIDICULOUS. The provider I love that I followed to this new clinic told me once that you cannot charge SoonerCare patients fees. I mentioned that to the new clinic owner and she cut me off and said “that’s not true. People say that but no one would take Medicaid if that were the case.” So we are giving $50 no show fees for virtual appointments, $100 no show fees for Spravato treatments, $45 ESA letter fees, $25 for a copy of your medical records and an additional $10 PER PAGE beyond 25 pages. I need to know if this is legal, because I feel like the low income patients I love are being robbed blind. I also witnessed a concerning HIPAA violation but I have no proof.
