Names. Dates. So many have passed through us since the beginning of the invasion. The Dead. The Wounded. The POW’s. The Missing. The Children. The Valiant and Brave. Tens of thousands of names and stories. You get to where you recall some of the faces but rarely the names unless somehow you knew or worked with them. In order to exist and be effective, you have to adapt. One of the things we do to adapt is to just keep marching ahead with our lives.

I had forgotten Shaun’s name and story. 2022 seems like ages ago here in the war. Each year of war feels more like a decade. Somewhere out there in algorithm land, the title of his book appeared on my screen. As an author in the war, I want to know who has written what especially for the Anglosphere. Furthermore, reading a book from someone who stayed throughout the invasion is appealing because as a fellow Anglo, you want to get their impressions, know why they stayed, and a bond is created. Plenty of books have been written by visitors to the war, but they are of a different category altogether. Once Shaun’s book graced my screen, I purchased the ebook version from Apple Books…
