Mavericks big man Dwight Powell is likely to retire at the conclusion of the 2025-26 NBA season, league sources tell Mavs Film Room. Powell is currently in the final year of a 3-year, $12 million contract he signed in the summer of 2023.

Powell has long been a favorite of former majority owner Mark Cuban, which has allowed him to enjoy tenure with the Mavericks on par with the likes of Dirk Nowitzki and other franchise legends. With Cuban no longer in majority control, the path for him to sign another contract with the team looks less clear. Powell, a native of Toronto, Canada, has made his home in Dallas and doesn’t desire to play elsewhere, sources tell us.
