The 1950s has been a time shows to be fun and carefree, but that isn’t true for all areas of society. Members of the LGBTQ world are trying to find peace from arrest, harassment, and all the other problems they encounter as they attempt to find happiness. In the process, members of a secret society have disappeared. To find them, one concerned member goes to a detective who is also finding happiness in secret. As he investigates the disappearances, he will find himself on a journey of self-discovery.

Yes, this is a mystery which is why I wanted to read it. But it isn’t your classical whodunit. The mystery is there, but I found the book to be more than just the unknown. It was discovering a lost area of history and the people who lived there.

As I read the book, I found myself researching the history of the story. The author did good research. The secret societies, the protests, the laws, the struggles, and the people…it really happened. The reader is introduced to more than a mystery. They get a glimpse into history never taught in school as the main character digs deeper into his assignment and meets people who give him insight into his own struggles.

The detective is a very interesting character who draws the reader into his world and feels the joy and pain he feels. We’re along for the investigation, but we find ourselves wanting so much more from…
