Without Medicaid, I would not have been able to get the care I need for my severe mental and physical illnesses (or continue to do so). It’s as simple as that. I have been very open about my mental health for the past seven years or so because I was silent for so long and almost died multiple times in that silence. I never want anyone to feel like they can’t talk about what they are going through, so I continue to speak out to show others that they are not alone.

This is not oversharing.

This is not attention-seeking.

This is my LIFE.

It is a clear message that you should have the right to feel comfortable and safe enough to speak up about your experiences, ask for help, and receive compassion, without being shamed for it.

I am not sorry if that makes some of you uncomfortable. I hope it does, because so many of you need to hear it.

This is for those who have been beaten down, shamed, or forced into silence. Not only for our health struggles, but also for needing the support and care that Medicaid provides. I am so sorry and angry for you — and for me. I hope that my vulnerability helps you in some way.
