Nadella’s theory of gaming vs short form video

I'm just curious to hear what you guys think about his idea that games are competing with short form videos like on Tik Tok and Instagram. I've never thought about the future of gaming in such terms because it feels a little reductive. You could just as easily say gaming is competing with long form videos, non-gaming hobbies, having children, starting a career or just growing up. There are no shortage of things that compete with gaming.

We saw in the pandemic that gaming took off every bit as much as short form video and it seems like they could co-exist just fine. The problem, as always, is growth. How can a resource-intensive industry like that of game development ever rival the growth of platforms for short form videos? Is it even healthy to shoot for a goal like that?
