EDIT: I spoke with my dad and there was a miscommunication. What he was trying to say was that because it’s a bit cheaper for 5 members than it is for 4, he said “if i stop paying for your insurance, i would have to stop paying for everything. i wouldn’t be able to afford it” long story short, it’s not because of the insurance company, it’s because of our family’s personal finances. thanks for all the info though!!

I'm 21, living with my parents who just recently got kicked off Medicaid. I'm disabled, chronically ill, unemployed, and I'm trying desperately to get government assistance. In July, Medicaid told my parents that they made too much money, so they got kicked off. I'm currently on their new insurance plan, which doesn't cover nearly 1/3 of the medical care that I need to live. They still claim me as a dependent on their taxes, which means I can't get my own insurance. The rub comes from the fact that they receive the equivalent of about $300 a month for me because I'm a dependent. Like I said, I can't work, so I don't have any income. My question is: if my parents stop claiming me on their taxes and I become an independent household, can I apply for Medicaid even though they pay for everything and I live in their house? I spoke with DCBS, and they said yes, but my mom spoke to someone from Medicaid (I think), and they said the opposite. As of today, my medical bills have added up to nearly $4,000 in the past 2 months. This is not a feasible option for me. Any answers are greatly appreciated. I'm so angry I can't see straight.

TL;DR: I'm on my parents' deductible-based health insurance because they claim me as a dependent on their taxes. I have $4k in medical bills. I need to know if I can live with my parents, they continue paying for everything, and still be an independent household, so that I qualify for Medicaid.
