The first season of Netflix’s hot new rom-com series, Nobody Wants This, started the series off with a bang. Instantly lovable but deeply flawed characters, engaging arcs, and fitting, realistic conflict to drive the story.
Season two picks up where we left off at the end of season one, with Joanne and Noah in a relationship with both strength and issues, like any relationship. As an atheistic Jewish woman in a long-term relationship with a man who isn’t Jewish, I have an interesting perspective on this story. My entire family is Jewish, I was born into Judaism, and my grandfather was a cantor. My mother’s extended family is relatively orthodox. My father’s extended family is as well. My family and I don’t practice any religion, although we’ll attend Jewish ceremonies if necessary, and neither does my partner, although his family celebrates typical, commercialized Christmas. Our future children will be celebrating Chrismukkah. Religion generally makes me uncomfortable and put off, but I find this show strangely comforting.
