I’m having trouble getting my mom’s New York Medicaid fully terminated, and I’m hoping someone here has been through this.
A few weeks ago, I went to our local Department of Social Services (DSS) office and filled out a termination form to cancel her Medicaid so I could enroll her in a Marketplace plan through NY State of Health.
But when I tried to enroll her, the Marketplace said her Medicaid is still showing as active, and that the only way to get coverage now would be to buy a private plan, since the system won’t let her qualify for a subsidy while Medicaid is listed as open.
I’ve called the local DSS office more than 10 times, and no one ever answers.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
• Should I go back to the DSS office in person again?
• Will the Marketplace automatically update once DSS terminates it, or do I have to provide proof?
Any advice would really help. I just want to get her off Medicaid properly so she can get the right coverage.
Thanks in advance!
