Old Dominick 8 Year Reserve Bourbon Review

perhaps the best thing to come out of the Memphis distillery

Nashbill: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley

Pour: neat in glencairn over the course of two or three days

Nose: oak, all spice/cinnamon, caramel, slight cherry/red fruit note (I agree with additional notes from Old Dominick website of cream soda and raisin)

Palate: very oak forward, honey, vanilla bean, chocolate caramel cheesecake

Finish: more caramel, even more oak, punches slightly above its proof yet still silky smooth with a pleasantly light burn, what it lacks in flavor complexity is made up with a deep richness, very good mouthfeel

Deep Chew Notes: dark chocolate, licorice

Rating: 4.1/5 (BNAP)

I’d been looking to add some different and oakier flavor profiles to my cabinet and Old Dominick 8 Year Reserve is the perfect addition. Very oak forward with other dessert-y notes without being too sweet. It’s mellow yet packs a pleasant punch towards the back of the tongue and at the sweet spot of 100 proof, this very well may be the best thing to come out of the Memphis distillery. I reviewed the cask strength bourbon and this 8 year reserve beats it by a healthy margin. How well refined the notes are here create a consistent, pleasant experience over and over again. And for the price? I believe I paid around $60–65 (I got the last bottle at Colonial Liquors), so I wish I bought a few more. As such, this is easily a buy now, apologize later tier bourbon.
