On Tuesday, OpenAI announced a new AI browser called ChatGPT Atlas. According to OpenAI, the browser was developed with the guiding question, “What if you could chat with your web browser?”

The “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar lets users ask questions without needing to open ChatGPT in a new tab.

ChatGPT Atlas can generate page summaries, conduct web searches, and answer questions for you.

“The ChatGPT sidebar is meant to stay open while browsing takes place, providing a browsing companion,” says MacRumors.

The browser uses OpenAI’s Operator agent, which is capable of performing actions, browsing the web on behalf of the user, and completing web-based tasks such as creating shopping lists, placing take-out orders, and filling out online forms.

ChatGPT Atlas also includes standard browser features such as tabs, bookmarks, browsing history, and a password manager.

Atlas is now available on the Mac App Store. Support for iOS, Android, and Windows is expected in the near future, while Linux compatibility is unlikely.
