Party on the dance floor…and in Derva First’s review

Devra First’s review of Hue stands out because of her distinct written personality.

First allows readers to feel like they’re entering the venue alongside her. We truly feel like we’re experiencing the “party” Hue strives to throw.

First’s personality lies in the details, like when she writes “The staffers are sweetheart angels with amazing skincare routines, glowing and kind.” Would I necessarily write or talk like this? No. But I appreciate the individuality in her writing, something I strive to achieve. (Ironically, this graf received criticism in the comment section, but I can appreciate a writer who has a clear voice.)

I also like that she begins with positivity: the atmosphere, staff and music. After creating a clear voice in her writing and setting the scene, she gives a more in depth review of Hue’s food, which disappointed her.

First’s last graf strikes a balance between praising the positives and providing criticism for the lack luster food. “But great nightlife deserves great food. At Hue, there’s some catching up to do,” First writes.

At the bottom, she leaves a very simplistic price, hours, noice level and rating run down, a fun addition that I might take inspiration from in my next review.
