PJ Morton Concert Review — Chicago (From a Personal Perspective) First Edition*

Singer, songwriter, record producer, and keyboardist PJ Morton performed at House of Blues Chicago.

A Poetic Blend of Romance, Fun, and Church on a “School Night”

BLACK WOMAN 1: Is this your first PJ Morton concert?

BLACK WOMAN 2: Yes!

BLACK WOMAN 1: You lost your virginity!

I heard this conversation when I stepped outside after attending the musician PJ Morton’s concert at House of Blues Chicago on Monday evening, October 13.

Immediate thoughts

  • I felt at home and safe. At one point, I held onto the rail to get down a set of stairs, and a female stranger gently grasped my arm to assist me in getting down those stairs.
  • When PJ Morton returned to the stage for an encore after the audience chanted, “PJ” numerous times when he exited on his “last song”, he apologized to the crowd, saying that he knows it’s a Monday night: I want to make sure I don’t have you out too late. A woman shouted,

“That’s alright, baby!”

Delayed Thoughts

  • Morton gave an amazing 90-minute+ show!
  • He mentioned and sung some Stevie Wonder and shared his mic with three audience members to sing, and from the sound of their voices, PJ is a definite inspiration for potential singing careers, and they were there to learn from “The Greats.” PJ Morton is great.
  • I “got more acquainted” with PJ sometime within the last year when I was sharing with my educator friend, Veronica Bohanan, how, at the time, I was learning to let go in my precious life, and in return, she shared a video on YouTube of PJ Morton featuring The Walls Group singing “Let Go, Let God.”

On that note, I gotta go and return to other life commitments. When time allows, I hope to continue with a second edition of this article.

I couldn’t miss my self-imposed deadline to hone my writing skills, especially as a journalist, to publish on my Medium account every Tuesday at noon.

Special thanks to a dear friend who arranged for me to see this concert.

Thank you for reading. Please consider becoming a follower of my Medium account and subscribing to my self-published online newsletter, Where We At.

Important FYI: My birthday is October 31. I am holding a personal fundraiser this year to buy a new printer, printer ink, and other items such as books and tickets to theatre performances to support my emerging writing career. Thank you in advance for your gift!
