What happens when a writer lets AI plan their next story? I wanted to find out — and ended up learning more about myself than about the machine.
The first side is the plotting itself. I had planned a new book series and wanted to see how far I could get with ChatGPT. The reason was simple: this time, I wanted my books to be a bit longer — not just 30 chapters, but 40.
I already had a rough idea of how the story should go: a beginning, a middle, and an end. I even had a few scenes I wanted to include. With 40 chapters, I usually plan for three major turning points — at chapters 10, 20 (the midpoint), and 30.
So I entered everything into ChatGPT and explained the structure I wanted. The result was a plot outline I could actually work with. After that, I went into more detail and refined each section (for example, chapters 1–10, 11–20, and so on).
If you stay focused and know what you want, you can plot a solid story in just one or two hours.
But then came the other side of the coin: the writing.
In short — I was completely blocked.
